A RESOLUTION relating to City Council election districts; setting
November 1, 2011 as the date for a public hearing to receive comment
2 on recommended revisions to councilmanic district boundaries following
the decennial census.

WHEREAS, the City Council is required by state law to adjust the boundaries
4
5 of the five councilmanic districts decennially using the latest United States Census
6 so that the districts meet the criteria outlined in RCW 29A.76.01 0, including
7 ensuring that district populations remain as equal as possible, and
8 WHEREAS, the City Council assigned the Government Performance and
9 Finance Committee to consider revisions to councilmanic district boundaries to
10 comply with the requirements of RCW 29A.76.01 0 following the 201 0 Census, and

WHEREAS, the Government Performance and Finance Committee

13 developed and recommended to the City Council a redistricting proposal, and
14 WHEREAS, RCW 29A.76.010 further requires a public hearing be held
1 5 concerning any proposed redistricting plan prior to considering it for adoption; Now,
16 Therefore,
17 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TACOMA:

Section 1. That the hearing required by RCW 29A.76.010 concerning
19
recommended revisions to councilmanic district boundaries shall commence on
20
21 November 1, 201 1, at approximately 5:80 p.m., in the City Council Chambers,
22 First Floor, Tacoma.Municipal Building, 747 Market Street, Tacoma,
23 Washington.

The City Council assigned the Government Performance and Finance Committee to consider revisions
to councilmanic district boundaries to comply with requirements to adjust district boundaries following the
decennial census. The Committee has developed a redistricting proposal that it has recommended to the.
City Council. A public hearing is required prior to Council consideration of any redistricting proposals.
