RESOLUTION NO. 33268
BY REQUEST OF COUNCIL MEMBER KIRBY

WHEREAS Section 1.18.010 of the Tacoma Municipal Code provides
3
4 that a Deputy Mayor shall be elected by the Council at its first meeting after
5 such office becomes vacant, or as soon thereafter as practical, and
6 WHEREAS City Charter Section 2.4 provides that all appointments shall
7 be made by majority vote of the Council members from nominees whose
8
names are presented in writing to the Council by the Mayor or by any three
9
10 members of the Council, which provision supersedes and prevails over any
1 1 other provision or ordinance, and
12 WHEREAS it would be expedient to nominate and elect to the office of
13 Deputy Mayor that member of the Council who has been in continuous service
14
on the Council for the longest term, from among those members of the Council
15
16 wishing to so serve, to serve for a term of one year, and thereafter to rotate the
17 office among the Council members in order of seniority, and, in case of equal
18 seniority, to select the nominee by lot from those of equal seniority.

WHEREAS the office of Deputy Mayor is now vacant; Now, Therefore,
20
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TACOMA:

22 That, pursuant to the foregoing, the member of Council nominated and
23 appointed to the office of Deputy Mayor to serve for the term to expire
