RESOLUTION NO. 36123
2 BY REQUEST OF MAYOR BAARSMA
3 WHEREAS it is the City Council's intent to provide opportunities for
4 citizens to participate in the affairs and activities of City government to the
5 fullest extent possible, and
6
WHEREAS the City Council has identified public safety, neighborhoods,
7
8 and economic development as its primary strategic priorities, and
9 WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 36084, adopted January 20,
10 2004, the following standing committees were established to make
11 recommendations to the full City Council: Environment and Public Works
12 Committee, Government Performance and Finance Committee, Public Safety
13
and Human Services Committee, and the Neighborhoods and Housing
14
Committee, and
15
16 WHEREAS the City Council previously established the Appointments
17 Committee (Resolution No. 32408, adopted November 30, 1993) and the
18 Economic Development Committee (Resolution No. 35969, adopted
19 September 30, 2003) as standing committees to make recommendations to
20 the full City Council, and
21
WHEREAS the City Council now desires to establish regular meeting

times and locations for said committees; Now, Therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TACOMA:

3 Council Standing Committees Established; Functions and Purposes
4 The following Standing Committees of the City Council are hereby
established. The functions and purposes of the standing committees are set
5 forth below.

Appointments Committee The Appointments Committee is responsible for
8 the following activities related to Council
9 committees and the City's citizen advisory
groups:

Establishing meeting times for the six standing committees of the City Council.
6. BACKGROUND INFORMATION/GENERAL DISCUSSION: (Why is this request necessary? Are there legal

Resolution No. 36804, adopted January 20, 2004, established the following standing committees of the
City Council: Appointments, Economic Development, Environment and Public Works, Government
Performance and Finance, Neighborhoods and Housing, and Public Safety and Human Services.
Pursuant to Rule 14(2) of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the City of Tacoma, each committee
meeting shall be duly noticed and/or regularly scheduled at meeting times determined by each committee
and adopted by the City Council. This resolution will establish regular meeting times for each of the
committees.
