Req. #12415 PUESOLUTIONNO. 37926 A RESOLUTION relating to landmarks preservation; naming one public park, renaming one public park, and naming one public property. 2 3 WHEREAS the Landmarks Preservation Commission ("Commission") received a request to name a park located north of Tacoma Municipal Building 4 5 North, to rename a park located at 429 South 80th Street, and to name a public 6 property located in the pedestrian area at the 1300 Block of Broadway Plaza, 7 and 8 WHEREAS, in accordance with the Policy on Place Names and Name 9 Changes, adopted by the City Council on July 25, 1986, by 10 I 1Resolution No. 30525, the Commission held the necessary public hearing on 12 the naming of the properties on September 23, 2009, and 1 3 WHEREAS, following the public hearing the Commission observed a 30 14 day comment period, and 1 5 WHEREAS, during this comment period an error in addressing for the 16 "Harry P. Cain Promenade" public notice was discovered and a correction 1 7 notice was sent October 20, 2009, and 1 8 19 WHEREAS, following the comment period, the Commission voted to 20 recommend the adoption of the proposed name at its regular meeting on 21 October 28, 2009, and 22 WHEREAS the Commission's recommendation is to name the park 23 located north of Tacoma Municipal Building North "Ben Gilbert Park," to rename 24 the park located at 429 South 80th Street, currently known as Celebration Park, 25 26 RW2415.doc-DEC/tok LEG 004 (11/89) "Ryan's Park, )I and to name the pedestrian area of the 1300 Block of Broadway 2 Plaza "Harry P. Per Council resolution 30525, the Landmarks Preservation Commission is tasked with the responsibility to review proposed naming and renaming of public facilities, upon request of the Mayor. The above name changes were forwarded to the Landmarks Preservation Commission on August 11, 2009. The Commission held a public hearing on September 23, 2009, to take public comment on this proposed name changes. Notice was published in the Tacoma News Tribune on September 13, 2009, and mailed on September 10, 2009, to property owners within 400' of the subject properties. In addition, notice was sent electronically to the Landmarks Preservation Commission distribution list. Following the public hearing, the Commission observed a 30 day comment period. During this comment period, an error in addressing for the "Harry P Cain Promenade" public notice was discovered; a correction notice was sent on October 20, 2009 via mail and electronic distribution.
