I BY REQUEST OF DEPUTY MAYOR ANDERSON
2 AN ORDINANCE relating to the Tacoma Arts Commission; amending
Chapter 1.28 of the Tacoma Municipal Code by repealing and reenacting
3 it in its entirety; and creating new subchapters to be known as
4 Subchapter 1.28A, "Tacoma Arts Commission" and Subchapter 1.28B,
"Municipal Art Program."
5 WHEREAS, Chapter 1.12-8 of the Tacoma Municipal Code ("TIVIC")

establishes the Tacoma Arts Commission ("Arts Commission") and includes
7
8 artwork into City construction projects by setting aside 1 percent of the cost of
9 construction for public art, and
10 WHEREAS the Arts Commission thoroughly reviewed and rewrote the
1 1 TIVIC in order to create a policy that is easy to understand, clarifies roles and
1 2 responsibilities, and is administratively functional and consistent with similar

policies within the City, and

WHEREAS, on July 1, 2009, the Government Performance and Finance
1 5
1 6 Committee gave a "do pass" recommendation to the proposed changes to
1 7 Chapter 1.28; Now, Therefore,
18 BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF TACOMA:
19 That Chapter 1.28 of the Tacoma Municipal Code is hereby amended by
20 repealing and reenacting it in its entirety and creating new subchapters to be
